Russian impressionist to paint at Amandeline Gallery
Contemporary Impressionist Sergey Cherep, who was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, will demonstrate his painting technique at a downtown Rehoboth Beach art gallery, Friday. Oct. 19. Cherep, who has painted for 20 years, is known by his vivid oil painting and Monet-inspired techniques.
He later moved to painting in a Post-Impressionist style. Cherep said he paints from one to seven paintings a day.
In 2001, he demonstrated his talents in New York City for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and he also painted a helmet to honor those killed in the 911 terrorist attacks. Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman declared May 21 Sergey Cherep Day for the artist’s work within the community.
Cherep attended the Serovo Art Institute in Russia and is also a professor at the Accademia del Verbanzo in Italy.
This year he also won an ARTV award for his painting, which will be broadcast on the NBC-Bravo network.
In Europe and Russia, people think differently. They like realism in artwork in Russia - gray skies, heavy. Life is tough there said Cherep. However, Cherep uses bright, primary colors to depict sea and landscapes.
Cherep will be the featured artist at the Amandeline Gallery, where he will paint a vibrant landscape from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19, at the Amandeline Gallery, 403 Rehoboth Ave. Hors doeuvres by Jay Caputo will be served, along with a variety of wine provided by Bin 66.
